ACTIVITIES

Waterlovers is located on the wonderful beach of Diani. Almost constant trade winds blow into the spacious, pristine beach while the reef offers flat-water conditions and waves. The long beach of Diani stretches along a beautiful 25 kilometres. The coral reef is 700 metres from the beach and serves as a natural barrier, allowing for calm inside and wave conditions close to the reef. There are no sharks and turtles can be seen close to the beach. Although the beach is the main attraction, there is a wide variety of other activities. Our customer-care team will be happy to help book activities to enhance your stay. Here are just a few ideas to add to your Kenyan adventure….

Kite-Surfing

Diani Beach is the ideal spot for beginners and experts alike and offers plenty of space for safe launching and landing of kites. For those who want to learn this fantastic sport, Waterlovers is very close to the best kite and windsurf school in Diani, H2O Extreme Water Sport Centre.

Due to the trade winds, Diani offers perfect wind conditions and warm waters. You can leave your wetsuit at home – all you need here are board shorts and maybe a lycra for sun protection. The KUSI blows from April to September and is a side-shore wind from the South. In this period air temperatures vary from 25-30°C with wind speeds from 15 to 25 knots. The KASKAZI blows from November to March and is a side-shore wind from the North. In this period air temperatures vary from 30-35°C with wind speeds from 13 to 25 knots.

Snorkeling and Diving

From Waterlovers, guests can take a 10-minute ride in a traditional wooden boat to the coral reef, where you can snorkel and explore the wonderful tropical seabeds. At our beach house you can get snorkelling equipment and a 2-seat kayak without additional costs.

We can also arrange an ocean cruise with snorkeling, dolphin and whale watching, or just a joy-ride, as well as a day trip aboard a dhow, the typical Arabic sailboats, to visit Wasini Island and Kisite Marine Park. For those who want to start diving or already have a diving licence, the reef is extremely rich and offers different kinds of dive spots. Among the most common species are the colourful reef fish, the beautiful sea turtles and the giant whale sharks, which come to the reef between December and March. We can assist you in finding the most professional boating and dive operators.

LOCAL WILDLIFE / SAFARI

There is plenty of wildlife to see around Waterlovers. In addition to the amazing aquatic wildlife, guests can experience the rare breed of Colobus, an almost extinct black and white monkey, unique to this area of East Africa. A few troops of Colobus enjoy the Waterlovers property and guests can also visit the Colobus Trust, an organization for the conservation and the protection of these animals (www.colobustrust.org). At the trust you can have a one-hour visit of the centre and the surrounding forest.

A 45-minute drive takes you to the lovely Shimba Hills, on the largest coastal forests in East Africa. Although you may spot an elephant or two, as well as some antelope, it is best known for bird watching. For those who want a bit more of a traditional safari experience, Tsavo National Park is a three hours away. Our team can arrange game drives and even overnight stays with direct pick up and drop off at the hotel.
